Lead in the environment and its toxic effects
KUŘÁTKOVÁ, Klára
This diploma thesis on the topic "Lead in the environment and its toxic effect" is focused on the characteristic of toxic heavy metals, on the lead contamination of the environment and also on the toxic effect of lead. This diploma thesis also includes an insight into the individual components of the environment. The diploma thesis also contains a chapter about laboratory diagnostics and on the treatment of lead intoxication. Two aims are selected in this diploma thesis. The first one is to define lead, its propeties, localization, impacts on the environment and its toxic effects on human health. The second aim is to analyze data from a questionnaire survey about the public awareness of lead influence on the nature environment and the toxic effects of lead. The quantitative research was chosen for this diploma thesis, which was attended by 102 respondents. The conditions for participation in the research part weren´t set and data collection was implamented using anonymous questionnaire surveys. This diploma thesis can be used for study purposes and as a source of information about lead and its impact on the environment and its toxic effect on the human body. The result of the research is that respondents are well-informed about lead. They are acquainted with the information regarding the properties of lead and its use, and regardinglead contamination of the environment, as well as the fact that lead is legislatively monitored in the Czech Republic. Respondents also have an overview about lead effects on the human body and symptoms of lead intoxication.
Pilot-scale Operation of Electrocoagulation for Removal of Toxic Metals.
Krystyník, Pavel ; Mašín, P. ; Krušinová, Z. ; Klusoň, Petr
The process was tested in pilot-scale unit placed in movable container and operated in continuous regime. The results have shown that the removal efficacies are strongly dependent on the dose of coagulant, which is the most important and crucial parameters affecting performance of electrocoagulation and of course on other process parameters. It is also very reliant on contaminant content in treated effluent. An addition of flocculating agent was also tested on the improvements of process performance.

Persistent Organic Pollutants and Toxic Metals Measured in Emissions from Combustion of Waste Motor Oils
Tydlitát, Vratislav ; Pekárek, Vladimír
Report gives information about measured contents of toxic inorganic gases in emissions from combustion of two preheated and atomized waste oil mixtures from Diesel tracks. The content of toxic metal is under official limits. Total toxicities of PCDD/Fs and PCBs 0,308 and 0,142 ngTEQ.m3 respectively and the content 62 and 6 microg.m3 of polyaromatic hydrocarbons respectively were found in emissions from two waste oils. The content of sulfur, chlorine and metals in fuels were compared with the content of these polluted emissions. Comparison with literature data about similar fuels and emissions is presented.
